NEW AND HAPPENING TODAY
Yosemite Forum Tuesday 3:30pm
"The Search for Rare Alpine Flora in Northern Yosemite" by Michael Uhler, Tilden Botanic Garden
Many of the plants found in the northern alpine areas of Yosemite National Park are at the southern and/or western limit of their global distribution and only persist on the highest peaks in this part of the Sierra Nevada. Alas, these wonderful plant taxa are particularly vulnerable to local extirpation in the changing climate. Consequently, Michael Uhler has the compelling desire to document these populations before any changes to their distribution occur. It was fortunate that his efforts were rewarded not only with exceptional beauty and solitude, but by the discovery of new rare plant occurrences. This presentation is a photographic journey by citizen scientists through the northern region of Yosemite National Park and the search for rare and beautiful alpine plants.
The Forum will take place Tuesday, July 11th from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the Yosemite Valley Auditorium. Please contact Ami Knighten at 379-1301 for additional information. (G. Dickman)
